Rabbits

Though usually though of as pets rabbits are great for meat, as they require pretty cheap food and don’t need much space. Furthermore, they yield more high-protein meat per dollar of feed than any other livestock. The New Zealand white is the most popular rabbit for meat.

Feeding

Pellet food provide the best diet. They can also be fed tender hay (such as timothy hay), grass, and vegetables. Side note that leafy greens should be fed sparingly to rabbits less than six months old. Root vegetables, apples, pears, and fruit trees are also acceptable. Water should always be provided and changed at least once a day. Remember carrots should not be regular fed to rabbits.

The Rabbit Hole

Rabbits can be kept in very basic housing such as a hutch. The hutch should provide protection against drafts, rain, and intense heat (rabbits are very cold tolerant.) Each rabbit should have its own cage as keeping too many in a tight space can cause stress and potentially bloodshed. Each cage should be about 3 feet wide, 3 feet deep, and 2 feet high.
